I have been away awhile. Sucked into the world of FaceBook. However I am thinking that they do not really care so much about the craft world and what I am up to. We got together last night for knit night and started working on the Cape May Bag. This involves sewing. Yes, I was sewing. If you knew my mom, you would say your not surprised. She is a seamstress and a darn good one. I never really had the desire to sew, even though she got all us girls sewing machines when we got married. Anyways the sewing went well and nothing was broke. Here are my squares, soon to be the Cape May Bag. These are from Amy Butler, purchased on E-Bay and Etsy.

It is good to be back. There has been so much going on. I will do some updates over the next few days while I enjoy the holiday at our cottage. And yes, I am still in love with Edward Cullen so the back ground stays!

Thats my mom on the far right in the pink. She had a quadruple bypass Thursday. We took her out the night before to keep her mind off her surgery. We went to Alex's in Batavia. They have great baby back ribs there. Then we went to our GCDP meeting. We had a good time- these ladies are great friends to my mom. Pray for Betty, she is next to mom in the red. She has Lou Gerhig's disease. She is an inspiration to me- she is so positive about the whole thing. And yes, that is cocktails on the table..

And this is the biggest Twilight fan I know! Looks at her. She has got it going on. From the hat to the Bella mittens, knit by me of course to the tote bag and lord know what else we can't see. Just to let know the obsession continues. Now I got myself something pretty cool, however, I also got one for someone special so I can't post it till I get it in the mail to her. A early birthday present you might say.

Oh and one more thing. Mom is doing great. Her surgery was uneventful, as Dr. Downing said, and she is on the road to recovery. Pretty scary seeing her right after, but today she had a shower and was walking, after only three days. All her tubes and IV's are out- she looks good. Not sure if she'll let me take a picture yet.

Who wouldn't want these beauties? I made these for the biggest 11 year old Twilight Fan I know. She even sleeps in these. She won't take them to school- she is afraid someone will take them. The pattern was very easy to follow and a pretty quick knit.

Can you guess what is on my mind this week? I finally saw the movie- it only came out months ago. To make up for that I watched it 3 times with Liz! We had a Twilight Party that was fabulous: T-shirts for the girls, buttons, Sweetheart candies, blood punch served in Martini Glasses dripping with blood- we had the theme going pretty well.

The Christmas Widdershin's are done. Okay, I started these Thanksgiving 2007 when Liz came home. Whenever Liz comes home we pick a project to do. She was teaching me two at a time toe up. It worked great. Nothing better than not having to knit a second after the first is done. HOWEVER, when I went to put them on I could not get them over my heel! Talk about stress. So then I had to call Lynne for guidance. Thank the lord for her! SO I had to tear and bind off 3, yes 3 more times. Do you have any idea how hard it is to take these little stitches out without dropping one or two along the way! I am not even going to go there. Well, anyways they are done and I think they are beautiful, don't you? And I have a finished object!!!!

New Years Resolution

What was your New Years resolution? Well if your like the rest of us, it is to loose weight. I came across this site http://www.wu-yisource.com/ tonight.

You really must check it out. Who knows, maybe it really works?! Me I am sticking with the traditional way- less calories and more exercise. In the mail today was a book recommended by Liz. She says it is good- so when ever she says it is good I read it. We'll see.

I am just trying to make some basic changes: no candy, doughnuts, pastries, cookies, fried food or fast food. Adding healthier foods- fruits and veggies. And maybe Jillian can add a few words to help me along the way.

I have been putting off my first post of the year- I wanted to finish some socks and put some pics of my holiday knitting and give my blog here a little make over. There are not enough hours in the day. So I have just decided to do this and worry about the others whenever I happen to get to it. I am still taking down holiday decor and trying to get organized for the new year.
Happy New Year by the way. I hope it was a good one and everything you hoped for. I always thought this was an overrated evening, but this year I did what I wanted and we had a blast ringing in the New Year with friends. No resolutions this year other than the commitment to a healthier lifestyle. Notice I said commitment and not resolution. Things seemed to have spiraled out of control after foot surgery and no exercise. My hubby is made the same commitment along with Liz. So we have a nice support group. Stay tuned to our on going quest to be fit!
I want to share some holiday pics and some FO's so stop back soon. You will enjoy the Christmas Eve, dining in the dark experience.

This is what I have been doing for the past few days. Sitting with my foot elevated. I had a procedure that has kept me off my feet. I thought I would sit and knit and knit. Well it was two days before I had the gumption to even pick up my knitting. But I am feeling better and have needles back in hand.

While I was preparing for a few days of being chair bound I organized my projects and prepared for Christmas Knitting. I am happy to say that I have officially started my Christmas Knitting! If you haven't started your you had better get going.... Have a great day and hopefully I can get a bunch of bandages off and start walking more today!

Football Outing

I took my annual trip to "Ralph Wilson Stadium" for a Bills game. Perfect day for football. If your from WNY you know exactly what I am talking about. Sunny and 50 degrees. Tailgated with Al which is always a treat. Here he is grilling some crab cakes and shrimp wrapped in bacon. Not your regular fare of hot dogs.

I enjoyed a cocktail or two while watching the game. What a beautiful day for November 2nd.

Halloween Sock Swap

As usual I was sucked into the "I am not going to do another swap- unless of course it is a Halloween Sock Swap. Last Tuesday I came home to a package on the front porch and was it wonderful. It was full of stitch markers, Halloween candles, mulling spices, a Halloween mug (that I am already using) some wonderful sock yarn and a beautiful pair of socks. And they fit perfect. Thank you Darlene. It really was a great swap package.

I also finished the socks for the Halloween Secret Swap. These are off to Bradford, Pa with some other goodies. Which means now I can actually start to work on some other projects.

Where did September go? That is one of my favorite months and it just passed by. But I love October so I guess it is not so bad. I look foward to pumkins, mums, warm cider w/Captain Morgan and Halloween (just in case my secret swapper is spying). We had a really busy weekend. Here is a summary for those of you who are wondering what I was up to:

It was a birthday weekend! It started out with Dan's 50th on Friday. Ginger and I crafted a cheeseburger cake. We had alot of assistants.

What is this?! It was my first ever Hot Dog Birthday Gram!! And if you know me well you know Hot Dogs are one of my favorite food, so this was special. Wonder who that is?

To Frog or Not to Frog

That is the question. I made a decision to frog these socks. They are the Christmas Widdershines. I love the yarn but am at a huge stand still with these. I forgot to switch yarn when I started the heel flap so I had to rip out and now I can;t get going again. The dilemma is that I need these needles to start the Halloween Secret Sock Swap. I didn't think I was as far as I was on these socks. So do I frog or make these socks a priority and get them finished this weekend? What would you do?

Dish Rag Tag

I am sure a few of you are asking just what is that. Well is is kinda of like a relay race but you have to knit a dish rag and mail it to the next person on your team. We have a team of 12 and they are located from California to Georgia to Minnesota. The race starts Friday when the box (baton) is mailed to me to get started. So when I get that box don't call, e-mail or bother me. I have a dish rag to knit and get in the mail! From time to time I'll post an update- I am sure you will be interested in how my team is doing. And no you can't start a head of time. Emily will be placing the pattern in the box- plus knitters do not cheat!

Manly Man weekend

Check this out. This weekend the men horned in on our activities. Yes, this is my good friend Spencer and yes he is in a yarn shop chatting with some of the girls. This is a Saturday morning knitting group that knits at a Knitters Corner in Medina, NY. As you can imagine I was a bit nervous when Spencer announced he was not dropping me off and coming back- he was just going to come in and wait. Here he is with some yarn and his new friends. I think he may head back up there this coming Saturday- so watch out Jen.

Now this is Coach. And first he was lending moral support but he just couldn't wait to get involved. Here he is showing Ginny how to ice the cake properly. We baked this cake for our good friend Annette and he truly was a fearless assistant.
Here is the finished product. Annette is loves fish so we baked her an Angel Fish.
If the man in your life didn't join you in something you enjoy this weekend- just show him this!

Lots going on this month. We just returned from a family wedding (Jules and Mark) on the West Coast. What fun we had! Guests arrived from as far as Manchester England, South Africa, and Australia. And we thought Buffalo was far.. This was how our trip started. Notice the smiling faces as they board this small turbo prop plane... This led to...

This upon our arrival. A little rough going into Cleveland. I think Chrissy had a tinge of green, Luckily the second half of the journey(which is what the Europeans call travel) was smooth.

Memorial Day

We started our Memorial Day festivities with the parade and ceremony in the town where we spend our weekends. This is our friend Scott Goetze, who was the Master of Ceremonies. Scott serves in the United States Air Force, in Niagara Falls, NY. He did a great job and we all left feeling grateful for the freedoms we enjoy every day of our lives.
So thank you to people like Scott, Adam and Ben who all have served and are currently serving our country. We are proud of you! Happy Memorial Day. And ladies, can you think of anything better than a handsome man in a uniform!

Cake # 3

The cake decorating has come to a end. This is cake #3. Notice the lovey roses- let me tell you one thing- these little suckers are not easy to do- especially when your icing is to stiff- but they don't look to bad for my first try. This was a lot of fun, but very time consuming, between baking each week and making pounds if frosting. I hope to move on to less stressful cupcake fun. I have a few birthdays coming up so I hope to test the waters and use my newly acquired skills. So now that the May Day Swap has ended, and cake decorating is done- I have some spare time- guess I'll start another pair of flip flop socks and the Diagonal Front Jacket (doesn't Lynne look marvelous in this!)by Debbie Bliss!

I have lots to blog about, buts lets talk about socks! The May Day Secret Sock Swap has come to a finish. These socks are making their way to someones door any day now.

And these beauties were in the mailbox yesterday! I just love them and they fit perfect. Knit in one of my favorite colors, Carole couldn't have done a nicer job. She also sent a nice bar of dark chocolate and more sock yarn! Dicentra Designs, hand dyed coloar energy- this will make a great pair of summer socks. Oh how I love sock yarn! Thank you Carole. The socks brightened a very gloomy WNY day yesterday! Like sunshine on my feet.

Cake II

Cake number 2 is complete, I took it to work and the girls liked it so much they ate it...to bad for Dan, he didn't even get a crumb(who made this post?). Let me tell you a little about this cake in case your wondering. It is frosted with a pale pink, almond flavored icing. Raspberry filling separates the layers, and although it doesn't show in the picture there is a touch of edible glitter sprinkled over the entire cake. And don't feel so bad for Dan, I am baking a cake for the brother-in-law tomorrow that he will enjoy, and last week him and Annette consumed quite a bit of the rainbow cake. So please don't feel pity on Dan. A bit nervous about the brother in law cake- have a plan and discussed this my Wilton Instructor Tuesday- I'll post some pics Sunday. Have a great Friday!

Mayday is an emergency code word used internationally as a distress signal in voice procedure radio communications. It derives from the French venez m'aider, meaning 'come to my aid'/"come [to] help me." You can all rest- there is not emergency. In fact one sock is done and I am feverishly completing the heel flap on the second sock. I do not have a picture at the moment- but it is a lovely Monkey Sock knit in J-Knits sock yarn. I'll try to post a picture later this week..back to my icing emergency.

That is what my husband is saying after I came home from my first Wilton Cake Decorating class. It is very cool. Last night we learned how to make butter creme frosting and how to slice a cake in half (yes, Liz, of course I bought the tool) and fill it with something yummy. This is my good friend Ginger Baker, they do not call her that for nothing, displaying a parchment icing tube that we made. Appearently we will be using these next week to decorate our first cakes! Ginger was full of questions and I am sure already got her moneys worth, however I am going to concentrate on simply baking a flat cake this week. How exciting. Don't worry May Day Secret Swapper, I will work on those during lunch!

Oh and did I mention they have a special tool to fill cupcakes?

Who doesn't love sweets. The next special swap is a "Sweet Treats" swap. Very hard to pass on this swap. Lynne, also know as the "Swap Mama" who graciously organizes our swap came up with a survey so swappers could get to know what eac h of us desire. So here goes, after a lot of thought:

Wee Tiny Sock

Your probably asking yourself what is this picture all about- especially you Spencer! This will be called the "perfect end to a crazy day". First, notice the Wee Tiny Sock in the flowers. This came today, all the way from Minnesota I believe. Connie, who is also a fellow knitter and blogger, did a awesome job. I am sure of you will think this is weird, but to 276 of us it is pure excitement. I can't to put it on my Wee Tiny Sock blocker. Now the flowers were also waiting for me when I arrived home, so another great surprise, all in one night. Wee Tiny Socks and flowers, what more could a girl ask for! Oh a bike helmet and I got that tonight also, we'll save that for another post.
I mentioned a crazy day at work... all I'll say is we have a pond out in front of our building and today a car was in it- yep craziness.

I will not be a shlumpadinka!!! Yesterday I watch a episode of Oprah with Lynne and Oprah and Lloyd Boston did shlumpadinka makeovers. Oh my- my closet could have been on that show- and yes Lynne- I tossed the overalls out- even though they are GAP. What was cool about this was Lloyd actually went to stores these women shopped at and re-did their wardrobes. So what is a shlumpadinka? a yiddish word Shlumperdinka, which means: messy, sloppy, untidy; the effects of being a shlump, so if this is the image your closet portrays you are officially a shlumpadinka- don't you love this word.

Attention May Day Sock Swappers

You can all breathe easier today! I have finally, after three starts found the perfect pattern to go with the yarn I selected. I am using the ever popular Monkey sock and J.Knits, hand dyed yarn. If you haven't knit the Monkey Sock you should- once you start the lace pattern you can't put it down. It truly is a fun sock to knit. Now if I can just turn it into a toe sock for my flip flops I will be really happy. I will post some pics over the weekend of my progress. I am thinking that this sock would be easy to knit two at a time on a circular- but for know I will stick to dpn's and get these socks done! Happy first day of Spring to everyone and enjoy your Easter. We will searching for our eggs in the snow this year!

I may be ready to start this sock for the third time. I have some perfect yarn, now if I could just find the perfect sock pattern. Each time I start things just do not look like the picture. Could the third time be the charm? I love this sock done in Annetrelac. We'll see- so stay tuned.

Detour! Which is what I had to take as I started my May Day Swap Sock. I had it perfectly planned- sock and pattern- then I discoverd yarn that I thought would be more suitable for my secret swapper. I had the pattern and started knitting it up and I frogged the heck out of it before lunch time. It wasn't what I was hoping for. I am on a new path and I think it will be good- stay tuned for a little peak!
On another note- in the last 2 days we received almost 20 inches of snow. Check out the Citylakers if you want to see what this looks like! It just kept coming and coming- difficult to drive in but great to watch from the couch with knitting needles in hand.

After looking at all the UFO's on Saturday and not sure what to work on first I decided to have fun- so I knitted cupcakes. I saw these fun little goodies while checking up on the May Day Swap and Yarn Miracle. Nothing like finishing something in just a couple of hours. Here is the first one: doesn't it look yummy?!! Sock Swap

I was invited by Lynne to participate in the May Day Secret Swap. Of course I said yes- I love knitting socks- so I thought won't it be fun to get in a swap that involved knitting socks. I had no idea I would be swapping with master knitters! Talk about pressure- so off I went Saturday in search of the perfect yarn for the perfect sock for my secret swapper. BIRTHDAYS! Which we celebrated all weekend.

Happy Birthday Megan! We celebrated with friends and a great dinner at the Shamus on Saturday night. Notice the cool hand painted birthday wine glass Meg enjoyed all evening. And that is her hubby Scotty.

Happy Birthday Conor. What a cool soccer cake. Conor turned 7 today. Notice the placement of his right hand- over cousin Sarah's mouth! He wasn't to happy with the singing part- after all he "isn't 5 any more"!

Yikes- I haven't had a post in 10 days. I was very busy studying for the Amatuer Radio test, which I passed with flying colors might I add! Anyways, now back to normal things like knitting. Yesterday while we were talking about the winter blues, we decided that it would be fun to have a Secret Valentine exchange for Valentines Day. What fun-creating a little surprise to share and getting one in return. Hmm-- what will mine be- I already know and made a special trip to Crafts and Creation for the appropriate yarn. That's all I'll say for now. Have a great weekend- if your from WNY we are in for some more nasty weather which means great knitting!!

ABC Along 2008

Liz is always taking me to a new level. I am now officially signed up for the ABC -Along 2008. Since I have a new camera this will give me a good reason to take more pictures and share them with all of you. So yes Liz, I will start documenting my days with photos!
So how does this work? Every two week period corresponds with the letter of the alphabet. The purpose is to post pics of things that have meaning to you- and it does not have to be knitting related- so stay tuned for the letter A and B- since this week starts B week.

Knitting Lesson

For a few years now a group of us have been learning to knit with Master Knitter, Lynne. For many years she has been a fearless leader- picking the projects, the yarn, needle size and actually reading the patterns for us. So this month we decided to try something new- actually learn more about yarns, patterns and gauges. Below Lynne patiently talks about gauge and the importance of this. Notice the mesmerized look on Elma's face! (By the way, Elma does not care about any of this!) She just wants to knit. Lynne says we should know this so we learned about gauge, the different types of yarn and how to substitute yarn for your patterns.

One thing Lynne did not talk about was the inportance of keeping your needles organized- take a look at this- yes this tangles mess is the Master Knitters needles. Kinda of surprising- huh!

One of the many things I missed out on the past two years while I was in school studying every night my life was the Thursday night pounce tournament. My girlfriend Annette and family get together and play cards. The only thing I can say about this is "BRUTAL"! It is every woman for herself with this group. And by the way, watch out for Mrs. Fry- not as grandmotherly as you would expect!

This is other great thing. Annette cranks out some great snacks for us to enjoy. It was fun to get together with everyone and they even let me win one round.

Eye Candy Friday

Today was what I consider a great mail day!

One: my order from A Swell Yarn Shop. I don't know if I was a "Lucky Lurker", but I was lucky enough to snatch the last one of this Duet sock yarn. Aren't the colors marvelous! This will make a great pair of socks.

And this book which comes highly recommended. It's Friday night, and I am home, which is a bit unusual, trying to decide what to enjoy first.

Your probabley wondering just what this is your seeing. My mom, who loves playing cards on line introduced me to one of our all time favorite card games: Pounce. So we called each other, logged on (see below) and away we went. What fun (and not just because I beat her every time)! This game is really addicting- watch out Annette- I am practicing hours on end! Took a time out to post and now, back to knitting.

Christmas Knitting

Why do we do it? What I am referring to is starting to knit Christmas gifts the week before Christmas. Luckily these cute little hats didn't need to be done until Sunday the 30th. They are special little hats for my great, yes great, nieces and nephew. I can't wait to see them in these.
Now that these are completed two days ahead of schedule I can go back to knitting for myself. I was hoping to have the Christmas Widdershins done- oh well- I'll have them for next year.
I hope everyones holiday was as wonderful as mine and that we all have a happy and healthy new year. Santa brought a new camera to me so I was pretty busy snapping away. 'll try to post some pics over the next few days. In the mean time check out the hats!!
The flower pot hat in the center is from Itty Bitty Hats and the other two are Ear Flap hats are from Last-Minute-Knitted-Gifts. Located in the 4-6 hour section they are perfect as the book says for last minute gifts!

Cookie Time

Tonight I started baking cookies for our cookie exchange. I enlisted the help of Erin, who was instrumental in making sure that we had enough M&M's in the cookies and her stomach! Several hours later we had enough for the exchange and a few to nibble on. Don't they look yummy! Faith would be proud. I did everything she has taught me over the years, such as cracking your eggs into a seperate bowl then adding to the cookie dough. I have a new cookie I may try over the weekend. It's a Paula Dean recipe that I saw while traveling a few weeks ago. The best part about this is you use Pillsbury sugar cookie dough. I'll let you know how it goes. Whew- do the Christmas preparations ever end?! Still have cards, knitting and shopping to do. Thank goodness for Wheat Grass...

Headers play Attitudes

The Headers rocked the house on Saturday at Attitudes. There was a special guest appearance by a local favorite, Dan Stoll! They played all our requests plus a bunch of Christmas songs. All my favorite "Header Dancers" were there (Claudia, Robin and Stevie), plus a new one, Faith. We danced our feet off until well after 2:00am. Yhew! A great start to the holiday season. And yes, I played the Jingle Bells.

Secret Santa

While I was away, a gift bag mysteriously appeared on our front porch. Dan does not know who left this for us or when. It was obvious when I opened it that they new me well. The tag reads "Enjoy the holiday season". Thats it. Nothing else. So whoever you are please let me know so I can thank you- and by the way- it will look awesome on my tree!

California Weekend

We had a great time in California over the weekend. The company was great as was the weather. After the surprise party, Jules and Mark took me down to The Pier at Hermosa Beach and we checked out a few clubs(we call them bars- Californians call them clubs!). First stop: Mermaid Bar- greeted by two grumpy old men tending bar! Next stop- the Union Cattle Company, where Mark worked and the Bull resides. Very entertaining as the night went on. I was able to talk Mark into riding! Not me- I stayed in my chair- maybe in June when we go back. After a long day we headed back up the hill to Julieannes. The nice thing about Julieannes- you can walk to the beach-no driving- that is until you run into a abandon grocery cart.

Sunday was beautiful day and we ate breakfast at Martha's down at the beach. Very popular spot- received some VIP treatment and didn't have to wait for a table. Afterwards we walked along the strand and enjoyed the weather and the beach. Afterward we met Julie and Mom for some shopping, pounce, dinner and then crepes at Brunos(http://www.cremedelacrepe.com/). Bruno is a friend of Mark and Julieannes and makes the best Crepes I have ever had! We celebrated the Grand Opening of his second restraunt on Friday night and had to take Mom and Julie on Sunday for a taste. As we were walking back to the car you'll never believe what we walked past- a yarn shop! CLOSED. Rather surprising that I didn't notice it Friday night.

Headed home Monday morning to snow and cold. Thank you guys for the fun weekend and I can't wait to return!

SURPRISE!!!

Friday Mom and I headed to California to surprise her cousin Julie for her 60th birthday. Let me tell you one thing- boy was she surprised. Julie and her family have been spending Thanksgiving with us for as long as I can remember and I am 40ish! Anyways when she came in and made her way through the crowd and I said SURPRISE she just looked at me like she didn't know me and walked away. She didn't even see Mom. I said SURPRISE again- after all we traveled 2000 miles for this- she was so surprised she couldn't talk as you can see from the picture above . I think we were all relieved that she was surprised. Julie had just been visiting us for 10 days at Thanksgiving and we were all nervous about slipping. This was the first time in 30 some years I was glad to see Julie leave!! Unfortunately I tried to video this and kept turning the camera off instead of taping- yes, next time I will practice. But I do have a few pics to share. One other thing- you sure can do a lot of knitting traveling across the country. I have almost completed the Tabi Toe sock for a Christmas gift and working on my own widdershins!

Observations

Observations can be interesting. Last week my husband observed me working on 4 projects that I neatly laid out on the footstool. He wondered why I had 4 different projects going... Of course I had a reasonable explanation: 1. "Drops" sweater- Group project with Lynne and our Saturday am knitting group. 2. Baby Kimono- gift for a friend at work. 3. Gloves- another Lynne project! 4. Paton's sweater vest- my own project. I don't think he gets it. But we all do and isn't it great to a few unfinished objects to choose from!
